STOP THE HATE

9TH OCTOBER TO 16TH OCTOBER IS HATE CRIME AWARENESS WEEK.

North Worcestershire now have two dedicated Hate Crime Officers; PC 852 Louise Williams  and PC 2799 Calista Crosfield. Louise covers Bromsgrove and Redditch with Calista covering Wyre Forest. Their role is to offer personal support at a time when it is most needed.

WHAT IS A HATE CRIME/HATE INCIDENT?

A hate CRIME is defined as; 'Any criminal offence which is perceived by the victim or any other person, to be motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person's race; religion; sexual orientation or perceived sexual orientation; disability or perceived disability and any crime motivated by hostility or prejudice against a person who is transgender or perceived to be transgender'.

A hate INCIDENT is defined as; 'Any incident which the victim, or anyone else, thinks is based on someone's prejudice towards them because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, disability or because they are transgender.

HATE CRIME CAN BE: PHYSICAL ASSAULT, VERBAL ABUSE AND INCITEMENT TO HATRED.

Unfortunately a LARGE number of Hate Crimes go unreported to the Police, often because victims don't realise that it is an offence. NOBODY should  be victimised because of who they are!

PLEASE DON'T SUFFER IN SILENCE; Hate crime is everyone's problem. We all need to STAND UP TO HATE CRIME.

To report a non emergency Hate Crime or Hate Incident please use out website www.westmercia.police.uk and click on REPORT. You can also call 101 to report, however if the report is an emergency please call 999.

As an alternative to contacting the Police, you can report any Hate crime/incident to

www.gov.uk/report-hate-crime

 OR

 www.unitedagainsthate.co.uk

To reinforce our message 'STAND UP TO HATE CRIME' we asked our Police Cadets aged 13 to 18 to make a poster that meant something to them about Hate Crime. Attached are the posters they have made for you to enjoy. We think they've done a fantastic job!!
