Home Fire Safety #4

Do you know what to do in a house fire?

Fires during the day can be one thing but fires during the night can be a whole different story.

If a fire occurs in your home in the night would you know what to do? do your children know what to do?

Make sure you can hear your smoke alarm,  Make sure you test it every week. (Test It Tuesday)

Take a mobile with you to call emergency services as most landlines might not work without an external power supply which could be compromised in a fire.

Have a torch to hand.

Close doors when you go to bed, this helps stop fire spread to other compartments.

Turn off electrical appliances.

Make sure you know which route you will take and practice this route with children when dark.

Once out of the building stay out, do not go back in for valuables etc.

Stay calm.

If you can't escape from the property, try to all stay in one room if possible,

Try and stay near doors, do not hide in/under beds cupboards etc.

Shout for help, through open windows and keep shouting even when the fire service arrives, crews will be searching through almost near blackout conditions and this will make it easier to locate you.
