Traffic Operation held in Telford

On 18th July 2024, PC Sharon Major led a multi-agency traffic operation in Telford. The operation involved collaboration between Road policing, Telford and Wrekin licensing, Wolverhampton taxi licensing, VOSA (Vehicle and Operator Services Agency), and Inland Revenue.

The operation's objectives included vehicle safety checks, licensing compliance, and detection of various road-related offenses.

Key outcomes of the operation included:

  • Two vehicles were seized by police for lack of insurance and no TAX.
  • One driver was arrested for drug driving.
  • A vehicle was reported overloading as shown on the scales
  • Unsafe load, Tachograph offenses were detected in some vehicles.
  • VOSA conducted vehicle safety checks.
  • A driver with no M.O.T was reported
  • Inland Revenue officials checked for the illegal use of red diesel.
  • Local licensing authorities verified compliance among taxis and private hire vehicles.
  • The operation highlighted several road safety concerns, particularly the dangers of overloaded vehicles and unsecured loads. Overloaded vehicles were noted to have compromised handling, posing a significant risk to road users. Additionally, unsecured loads were identified as a hazard due to the potential for items to fall from vehicles and cause injury or accidents.

The multi-agency approach proved effective in addressing a wide range of road safety and compliance issues. The operation demonstrated the ongoing need for such collaborative efforts to enhance road safety and ensure regulatory compliance across various sectors of road transportation.
