Worried about a mate carrying a knife?

Know someone who is carrying a knife?

There is no 'safe place' to stab someone. Get stabbed in the heart and you can lose all of your blood in one minute. Get stabbed in the arm or leg and you could still die if an artery is severed.

If you carry a knife you are more likely to get stabbed yourself, situations involving weapons quickly get out of control and the knife could be used against you.

Knife crime can affect anyone. Innocent bystanders can get caught in the middle of other people's disputes and suffer trauma, serious injuries or worse.

Even if it's not you who stabs someone, if someone is injured or killed by a knife and you were involved you could still be sent to prison. If the person dies you could be sent to prison for murder.

Knives are the most common weapon used in killings of young people.

Last year 285 people were stabbed to death in the UK.

Children as young as ten have been treated at hospital for a knife wound in the past seven years, in the UK.

It is not just males who carry knives, since 2014 there has been a steady increase in the number of females caught with a knife.

We can only tackle knife crime if we work together - police, local government, schools, colleges, court, parents, carers and families.
