πŸš”Bromsgrove Police - Important Winter Weather Advisory  πŸš”

As snow begins to settle in our area, we want to ensure everyone stays safe on the roads and paths. Here are some tips and tricks for driving and walking in these wintry conditions:

Driving in Snow:

1. Plan Ahead: Check weather updates and your route before leaving. Avoid unnecessary journeys if conditions worsen and stay inside and have a cup of tea.
2. Clear Your Car from snow... roof and all! Fully de-ice all windows, mirrors, and lights before starting your journey. Make sure your VRM plate is visible and snow free.
3. Drive Smoothly: Accelerate and brake gently to avoid skidding and sliding everywhere. Use lower gears for better control and take your time.
4. Increase Distance and be prepared to stop: Maintain at least a 10-second gap from the car ahead, as stopping distances are much longer in snow and ice.
5. Keep and Emergency Kit: Keep a blanket, torch, fresh water, snacks, and a charged phone in your car in case of delays.

Walking in Snow:

1. Wear Appropriate Shoes: Choose sturdy, non-slip footwear without any holes in (no one wants wet feet) it all helps to reduce the risk of falls.
2. Use Handrails: When available, use railings on steps or steep paths for stability.
3. Walk Like a Penguin: It might seem silly but by taking short, slow steps with a slight bend in your knees helps maintain your balance.
4. Be Bright Be Seen: Wear bright or reflective clothing, especially in low light conditions.
5. Stay on Cleared Paths: Stick to gritted or shovelled paths to avoid ice patches and falling over.

Stay safe out there during these snowy days. Report any hazardous conditions or emergencies by calling 101 (non-urgent) or 999 (urgent).

Stay warm and dry, plan for extra time and expect delays if your out and about
