We’ve been made aware of scammers targeting vulnerable people in the area with dodgy investment schemes. They’ll knock on your door, promising unrealistic returns – like high percentages of profit or rent – to try and convince you to hand over your hard-earned money. In a recent case, they targeted a vulnerable person at home, using pressure tactics to get them to sign up and commit to handing over £5,000. Thankfully, this person had their wits about them and didn’t part with any money – but it’s a stark reminder to be cautious. How to Spot a Scam:Too Good to Be True: Promises of big returns are often just empty words.Pressure Tactics: Scammers might rush you or try to scare you into saying yes.Random Knock or Call: Be wary of anyone contacting you out of the blue, especially at your door.Lack of Clarity: They’ll often avoid giving clear answers or proper details about who they are. What You Can Do:Don’t Be Rushed: Take your time, and never feel pressured to hand over money or sign anything.Check Their Story: Do your own research, and if you’re not sure, speak to someone you trust or a financial professional.Keep an Eye on Neighbours: If you know someone who might be vulnerable, have a chat with them about this type of scam.Report Anything Suspicious: If someone approaches you or a neighbour with a similar offer, report it to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.police.uk.Remember:Scammers rely on pressure and confusion – don’t give them the chance. Take your time, trust your instincts, and let’s all look out for one another. |
