On Monday 13th January, Shropshire Council hosted an Armed Forces Outreach meeting at the Bridgnorth library, Listley Street, Bridgnorth, between 10:00 and 12:00. This is the local group for South East Shropshire. The Armed Forces Outreach programme is designed to provide help and support to all military personnel, veterans and their families. Working with the service charities and organisations, the outreach assists and facilitates for the purpose of ensuring that current and former military personnel have access to the right support. In order to engage with former members of the Armed Forces, Police Community Support Officers Mandy Leek, Helen Scott and Malcolm Goddard attended the meeting, chatting to the Armed Forces veterans and staff from partner agencies at the meeting. The discussions ranged far and wide, chatting about National Service in the 1950's, focussing on military deployment to Hong Kong, operational deployments to Korea in 1950 during the Korean war and basic training at Bordon Camp in Hampshire. Refreshments are always provided and anybody with a connection to the Armed Forces is welcome to attend, either for a chat or to seek assistance from the professionals present. The meetings are held at the Bridgnorth Library on the second Monday of the month, between 10:00 and 12:00. The next meeting will be on the 10th of February 2025.
