Hare Coursing

We have received multiple reports over the last few week's of hare coursing taking place in the local area.

Over the Christmas period officers seized a vehicle in the area of Worfield in relation to hare coursing. Other associated vehicles have been identified and investigations will continue to identify those offending in this illegal activity

Hare coursing is the pursuit of hares with dogs. The dogs chase the hare across open fields, and the aim is for the dog to catch and kill the hare. It is often associated with gambling, as bets are placed on the outcome of the chase.

Hare coursing typically occurs during the autumn and winter months, after the harvest season and before new crops emerge in the spring. This is when the fields are open and the hares are more visible.

Hare coursing is illegal and was banned under the Hunting Act 2004.
