Speed Enforcement Report: Sommerfeld Road Speed enforcement was conducted on Sommerfeld Road on Wednesday 15th January, following multiple complaints from local residents regarding excessive vehicle speeds. Using a calibrated TruCam speed detection device, vehicles were recorded traveling at speeds up to 44 mph in the designated 30 mph zone, representing a significant breach of the speed limit. This 14 mph excess over the posted limit is particularly concerning given that Sommerfeld Road is in a residential area. Research shows that a pedestrian struck at 40 mph has a significantly higher risk of fatal injury compared to impacts at 30 mph or below. In response to residents' concerns and the documented speeding issues, it is recommended to implement a multi-faceted approach: Immediate enforcement actions should include regular mobile speed enforcement operations using the TruCam device, particularly during peak traffic periods. Community engagement through local police teams should be increased to raise awareness of the speeding issues. Additionally, the Hadley Parish Council has installed a speed indicator device (SIDs) to provide immediate feedback to drivers about their speed, however this has not deterred the few who speed Long-term measures could include reviewing road layout and existing traffic calming measures to determine if engineering solutions could help reduce vehicle speeds. Child seat belt concerns in Leegomery While conducting Safer Outside Schools patrols I have noticed a few parents/guardians are not making sure the children in the car are wearing seat belts or using an appropriate child seat. This is disappointing Before you drive off complete a check to see the children are wearing seat belts and if a child seat a harness.
We will be issuing fines as this issue is too important to ignore!!
