Officers target retail crime in Herefordshire operation

A successful operation targeting retail crime was carried out on Wednesday (14 May) by officers from Herefordshire’s Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNTs).

Op Jetwing saw plain clothes officers from Hereford Southside and Rural SNT, along with Hereford Rural North SNT focus on the south of the city.

They attended Asda and Tesco on Belmont Road looking for shoplifters while PCSOs from both teams attended other shops to hold pop-up stands to engage with members of the public, provide advice and give out leaflets as well as sign up people up to our Neighbourhood Matters website.

During the operation, officers spotted a man wanted on warrant entered a store. He was arrested promptly and taken to custody.

Officers were able to build intelligence on a known nominal and a stop search was carried out on another known nominal.

Approximately, 60 members of public engaged with officers during the pop-up stalls and others were signed up to Neighbourhood Matters.

CCTV footage was obtained regarding other thefts in shops, with a suspect identified.

On Tuesday, officers from Hereford Southside and Rural SNT were able to stop two prolific offenders after they had carried out a large theft in a supermarket in Hereford.

They were both arrested, all goods recovered, and the two individuals were charged and remanded.
