This afternoon, Oswestry Rural South Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT), in partnership with the West Mercia Police Motorcycle Traffic Support Team, carried out a speed enforcement and road safety operation along Maesbury Road, Oswestry, and Main Road, Maesbury. Both roads are 30mph zones.
We are pleased to report that during one hour of monitoring on Main Road, Maesbury, no vehicles were observed exceeding the speed limit — a positive outcome that reflects well on local driver behaviour in the area.
However, on Maesbury Road through the industrial estate, 15 vehicles were recorded exceeding the 30mph limit, with speeds reaching up to 42mph. The drivers of these vehicles will be hearing from West Mercia Police in due course.
This operation supports our commitment to tackling the Fatal Four — a national policing priority aimed at road safety and reducing serious road traffic incidents. The Fatal Four are: 1. Speeding 2. Drink and drug driving 3. Using a mobile phone while driving 4. Not wearing a seatbelt
Speeding is one of the most common factors in road collisions that result in serious injury or death. Our teams will continue working across the area to educate, enforce, and encourage safe driving to protect all road users.
We thank the public for their support and cooperation as we continue to promote safer roads for everyone.
