Road safety issues

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road Safety Issues, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

Leominster SNT have been out in Kimbolton and Aymestry today completing some local speed enforcement following some community concerns.

We also wanted to give everyone a quick recap on the guidelines around the use of electric scooters.

Electric scooters are classified as a motor vehicles therefore fall under the jurisdiction of the Road Traffic act 1988. Therefore, someone riding electric scooter must have insurance and a driving licence.

As it is not currently possible to get insurance for a privately owned scooter it is illegal to use them on a road or in a public space such as parks, pavements and shopping areas. If someone is using an electric scooter in these spaces, then they run the risk of it being seized under the road traffic act for having no insurance and face a fine and points on your licence.
If found using an electric scooter in a public place in an antisocial manner the electric scooter can be seized under the police reform act.

If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.westmercia.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.

Alternatively, you can stay 100 per cent anonymous by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via their untraceable online form at crimestoppers-uk.org
