Operation Spotlight - The Fatal Four

West Mercia Police is supporting the national campaign Operation Spotlight this month to 'shine a light' on roads policing.

The national operation seeks to highlight and raise awareness of the work that roads policing officers, local policing teams and communities do to tackle issues and reduce the number of people that are killed or seriously injured on our roads.

The stats:

56 people were killed in road traffic collisions across Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire last year, with 468 people seriously injured.
In Shropshire, 22 people were killed in road traffic collisions and an additional 182 were seriously injured.

The main factors in road traffic collisions, known as “The Fatal Four”, include;

• Speeding or Inappropriate Speed.

• Mobile phone use.

• Drink or Drug driving.

• Seatbelts not being worn.

Keeping road users safe is a "24/7, year-round priority" for West Mercia Police, so shouldn’t come as a surprise to see officers completing operations and enforcement to tackle these issues across West Mercia and more locally in the Oswestry area.
We urge motorists to comply with the rules of the road, staying safe and helping us to keep our roads and communities safe.

Thank you.
