Bike Security

Bike secure, bike locked !

Bicycles are one of the most targeted items by thieves…don't give a thief an easy ride.  Create a bike passport and obtain materials to secure your bike at www.bikeregister.com.     You can also register the details at www.immobilise.com

If your bike is stolen and found by the police then a quick check by us will confirm your as the owner.  We can also (free of charge) security mark your bike which will act as a deterrent and make it harder for thieves to pass your bike on.  Please speak to your local safer neighbourhood team to apply.

All bike frames are given a serial number.  This is normally located underneath the bike and should be written down or photographed and kept somewhere safe.  Always lock your bike when you leave it, even if its only for a few minutes.  Look to spend about 10% of what your bike is worth on the lock.  For better security use two locks of a different type - a D lock plus a robust chain and padlock.

Lock your bike at recognised secure cycle parking that's well covered by good lighting and CCTV, with both the wheel and the frame secured to an immovable object.  Insure your bike either on home contents insurance or separately.  Security mark the frame with a UV pen.  Use your initials, postcode or another mark that is unique to you.

Remove and accessories.  Vary your routine by locking your bike in different ways and places.  If your bike is kept in a common stairwell, ensure the door is always locked and secure and the door entry system is working.  If your bike is kept in a shed, keep the shed secure with good quality locks, the windows covered and an alarm.

If something has happened to you or someone you know (including in public spaces online) let us know using the online ‘Tell Us About’ form on our website www.westmercia.police.uk

If you aren’t comfortable contacting us directly, you can pass on information anonymously to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, by calling 0800 555 111 or by visiting their website: www.crimestoppers-uk.org

If you ever feel at risk, or a crime is in progress, please always dial 999.

Thank you for your help. It is only by the police and the public working together that we can prevent crime and make our streets safer.
