Shoplifting offences down across West Mercia

Tackling retail crime and delivering safer town centres

Retail crime has a real impact on livelihoods and feelings of safety, that’s why the PCC backed West Mercia Police with the resources it needed to introduce 10 dedicated town centre teams.

And with West Mercia bucking the trends we are seeing elsewhere in the country, it’s clear this focus is delivering the results you want to see with shoplifting down and more offenders being brought to justice.

In 2024/2025, there were 4% fewer shoplifting offences across our three counties, and a 4% increase in police taking action against offenders when compared to the previous year.

Committed to tackling crime and delivering on your policing priorities, the PCC will continue to use his role to support and challenge the Chief Constable to ensure everything possible is being done to enable businesses to thrive by delivering safer town centres.

You can read more about how the PCC plans to deliver a safer, stronger West Mercia in his West Mercia Safer Communities Plan.
