Speeding concerns - Eckington

Good morning,

We are aware one of the concerns within the village of Eckington is speeding.

Following a drop-in session in Eckington on the 8th August 2025, PCSO HARRIS and PC ROISSETTER conducted some speed enforcement in Eckington following concerns around vehicles speeding through the village. They monitored 150 vehicles and found 0 going over the speed limit of 30 mph.

The Road Safety Team have also been out in Eckington and arranged for 24/7 checks to be completed via data boxes. Speed data was obtained 24/7 between 24th – 31st July 2025 on the B4080 Main Street through Eckington Village. The cross section for both directions was found to have a mean or average speed 29mph.

We are extremely pleased with these results, as I hope you are and I truly hope this provides some reassurance to residents.

Whilst no vehicles were noted going over the posted speed limit, a reminder that speed limits are in place for a reason. Last year in 2024, 56 people were killed and 516 seriously injured in road traffic collisions across West Mercia Police and common causation factors listed in these collisions include:

  • Speeding or inappropriate speed
  • Distractions, such as mobile phone
  • Driving under the influence of drink or drugs
  • Not wearing a seatbelt.
  •
