PCSO Becky Bullock and PCSO Kev Tudge from the Pickersleigh and Chase Safer Neighbourhood Police Team have been visiting Shops in Barnards Green and also the small convenience stores in both wards of Malvern today as part of the West Mercia Police, Safer Business Week.
The "Police Shop Watch Scheme" in Malvern is a partnership between West Mercia Police and local businesses to reduce crime through direct communication and intelligence sharing.
The Malvern Shop Watch Scheme was first launched in Barnards Green in March 2023, which is covered by the Pickersleigh and Chase Safer Neighbourhood Police Team.
The scheme allows, Police to work closely with local shops who can message the local police team directly and receive relevant alerts. Member shops display a "Shop Watch" sticker to show their participation.
The scheme establishes a direct communication line between shopkeepers and the local police Safer Neighbourhood Team.
It is designed to improve crime prevention, especially for offences like shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.
Schemes have also been established in areas such as Great Malvern, Malvern Link and Malvern Retail Park.
Shop Watch has helped to play a positive part in detecting those responsible for shop theft in Malvern, with an increase of 154% in positive outcomes, in relation to reported shop thefts between 2022 and 2025.
