Sheep worrying |
||
|
Dear resident, We have received reports of sheep worrying where a dogs have chased sheep on Castlemorton Common. We are aware that the majority of pet owners are responsible, but as a last resort, under the Animals Act 1971 a farmer, landowner or anyone acting on their behalf has a legal right to shoot a dog to protect their property, that being their livestock. We would urge any dog owners that if they are walking their dogs by any livestock to make sure they are on a lead until they are a good distance away. At this time of year the high majority of ewes will be pregnant and some may be about to lamb, the stress of being chased by dogs will cause the ewe to miscarry which will result in a financial loss to farmers / graziers. If you have any information about this please let us know using the online ‘Tell Us About’ form on our website www.westmercia.police.uk. If you aren’t comfortable contacting us directly, you can pass on information anonymously to the independent charity, Crimestoppers, by calling 0800 555 111 or by visiting their website: www.crimestoppers-uk.org Thank you for your help. It is only by the police and the public working together that we can prevent and detect crime.
