Malvern Police to trial the use of public transport to respond to 999 calls |
||
|
Malvern are one of three stations in West Mercia Police who are today (1/4/26) trialling the use of public transport to respond to 999 calls. Logistics manager Joanne King stated “95% of emergency incidents that we attend are within a mile of a bus stop or train station. So, with the recent rise in fuel costs we have decided to trial this initiative in an effort to reduce costs and in doing so, reduce our carbon footprint. We will be keeping 5% of our vehicle fleet on the road, so we still have the capability to respond to incidents that occur further than a mile from a public transport link and to assist in transporting those prisoners who officers feel are not safe to be transported to custody on a crowded bus”. If this trial is successful, then it could be rolled out force wide.
