We've received a report of a resident being contacted by an individual claiming they needed access to their property to carry out checks and install equipment relating to an inverter and meter.

When questioned, the caller was unable to clearly explain who had authorised the visit, why it was required, or provide details in writing. The caller also appeared reluctant to answer reasonable questions and was keen to arrange access to the property.

This serves as a timely reminder to remain vigilant when receiving unexpected phone calls. Fraudsters and rogue traders will often use convincing stories to gain your trust, create a sense of urgency, or persuade you to agree to a visit before you've had time to verify their claims.

• Ask for the caller's name, company and contact details.
• Request information in writing and take time to verify any claims.

• If an appointment is arranged and you're unsure, ask to see identification before allowing anyone into your home.
